Chamber Sonatas: Baroque Cornett and Sackbut

Chamber Sonatas: Baroque Cornett and Sackbut

Indian Hill Church (6000 Drake Avenue)

Featuring works of Fux, Purcell, Bertali, Cima, Marini, and Castello, this program of chamber sonatas highlights two unique and rather obscure Baroque instruments: the cornett (also called the cornetto or zink), a lip-reed wind instrument made in both straight and curved forms (as seen in the figure above, third from the left) and the sackbut, the direct predecessor of the modern slide trombone (as seen above, all the way to the right.)

We start our season off showcasing two very special instruments, so please join us for this exciting first concert of our season! 🎉
